Why host your servers in Germany

Companies from Singapore to São Paulo rent servers in Germany. Some do it for European customers, others simply because the combination of price and quality is hard to beat. Here are the main reasons.
Data protection
Germany applies the EU's General Data Protection Regulation alongside its own Federal Data Protection Act. Hosting personal data inside the EU makes it simpler to meet GDPR obligations, since you avoid transferring data to third countries. If your customers are European, a German server is often the path of least resistance with their compliance teams.
A central network position
Frankfurt hosts DE-CIX, one of the largest internet exchange points in the world. Datacenters in Falkenstein and Nuremberg connect into that ecosystem, so traffic reaches most European capitals in a few tens of milliseconds. The Middle East and North Africa are well served too.
Renewable power and certified facilities
Our datacenters run on 100% renewable electricity and are certified to ISO 27001:2022 for information security. That is useful when a customer's procurement team asks about sustainability or security controls.
Prices
German bare metal is famously affordable. Competition between large operators keeps hardware prices low, and unmetered traffic is the norm rather than an upsell. A 14-core server with 64 GB of memory costs less here than many 8-vCPU cloud instances.
Things to consider
- Latency to Asia and the Americas is higher than from a local datacenter. For users mainly in India or the US, consider a server closer to them.
- Abuse handling is strict. German operators act quickly on spam, copyright and security complaints. Read our acceptable use policy before you deploy.
- VAT may apply depending on where your business is registered.
