Ryzen 9 7950X3D vs the cloud
| Provider | Machine | Compute | Disks | Traffic | Per month |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| DediGermany | Ryzen 9 7950X3D | all included | $389 | ||
| AWS | m7i.8xlarge 32 vCPU, 128 GB | $1,410 | $190 | $891 | $2,492 |
| Microsoft Azure | Standard_D32s_v5 32 vCPU, 128 GB | $1,343 | not included* | $861 | $2,205 |
| Google Cloud | n2-standard-32 32 vCPU, 128 GB | $1,461 | $240 | $1,033 | $2,735 |
Cloud: on-demand list prices in Frankfurt for Linux, 730 hours a month, checked 4 November 2026, before tax. Disks: 2 TB of SSD block storage. Traffic: 10 TB a month out to the internet. Savings plans and reserved instances lower cloud compute by roughly 30–60% for a 1–3 year commitment; traffic is charged either way. *Azure disk prices are not included.
How the comparison is made
- Compute: the cheapest current-generation on-demand machine in Frankfurt with at least as many vCPUs as the server has CPU threads, and at least the same memory: general-purpose (AWS m7i, Azure Dsv5, Google n2-standard) or memory-optimised (r7i, Esv5, n2-highmem). GPU servers are compared with machines that have the same GPU memory per GPU, ideally the same RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell GPU. 730 hours make one month.
- Disks: SSD block storage per GB and month (AWS EBS gp3, Google pd-balanced).
- Traffic: data sent out to the internet, at each provider's published tiers after the free allowance. On a DediGermany server, traffic on the 1 Gbit/s port is unmetered.
A cloud vCPU is one hardware thread, usually on a server shared with other customers; a dedicated server's threads are all yours, so the match is generous to the cloud. Cloud providers do offer things a single server does not, such as managed databases, automatic scaling and machines in many regions: if you need those, the higher price may be worth it. For a steady workload that runs all month, a dedicated server is usually several times cheaper.
Where the prices come from
On-demand list prices for Linux in AWS eu-central-1, Azure Germany West Central and Google Cloud europe-west3 (Frankfurt), in US dollars before tax, checked on 4 November 2026 against the providers' published price lists. Google's RTX PRO 6000 machines are not offered in Frankfurt, so the Berlin region is used for them. Prices change: see AWS EC2 pricing, Azure virtual machine pricing and Google Compute Engine pricing for today's figures. DediGermany prices are live from our price list.
Questions
Is a dedicated server really cheaper than AWS?
For a server that runs all month, usually yes: often five times cheaper or more once disks and traffic are counted. The cloud wins for short-lived or very spiky workloads that can be switched off most of the time.
Why is traffic such a big part of the cloud bill?
The big clouds charge for every GB sent to the internet, about $0.05 to $0.12 per GB depending on volume. 10 TB a month adds several hundred dollars. DediGermany servers include unmetered traffic on a 1 Gbit/s port.
What about reserved instances and savings plans?
Committing to one or three years lowers cloud compute prices by roughly 30 to 60%. Disks and traffic stay the same. Even then, a dedicated server is usually cheaper for a steady workload, without a long commitment: DediGermany bills monthly.
Are the cloud prices up to date?
They were checked on 4 November 2026 and are updated from time to time. Use the providers' own pricing pages for a quote.
